The Medicaid Coverage Gap
Thanks to 20 Republican States -- 4.9 Million Poor, Uninsured, Non-elderly Adults   -- Go without Health Insurance

Obamacare (Affordable Care Act, ACA) expands Medicaid to all low-income individuals with incomes at or below 138% of Poverty ($27,724 for a family of three )

As of September 2015, 20 states are not expanding. That means 4.9 Million people will fall into a “coverage gap” of having incomes above previous Medicaid eligibility limits but below the lower limit for Obamacare's Healthcare Premium Tax Credits.

It is free for the State ! ( for the 1st 3 years then 10% till 2022).
Obamacare would like to thank these States for the Federal Savings and send Sympathy to the sick folks not getting it.

10 states still have not, including two of the largest, Texas and Florida where more than 3.5 million adults lack health insurance as a result.

The Video Explanation ( thankyou John Oliver, HBO)

 MEDICAID April 1st 2023

Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, New Hampshire and South Dakota will start cutting off coverage in April, followed by 14 more states in May and 20 additional states plus the District of Columbia in June.
Including 6.7 million children !
All states must complete their redeterminations over the next 14 months.

Around 15 million people could be dropped from Medicaid, (though several million folks could find coverage elsewhere).
Others may still be eligible but could be terminated for procedural reasons, such as not completing renewal forms.

Many eligible residents could be incorrectly terminated because these states simply don't care.

SOURCE: U.S. average life expectancies are lowest in the Southeast, highest on the West Coast and the Northeast.

The worst includes 8 States that have not implemented Medicaid expansion .
Obstinate Republican-driven resistance meant closures of rural hospitals and high rates of uninsured residents.

That's right, China is now better than the U.S. !

INEQUALITY KILLS US ALL ( including the rich)

Canadians live longer, healthier lives.

Compared to their neighbours south of the border,
Canadians live longer, healthier lives.

Research published in BioMed Central's open access journal
Population Health Metrics
has found this disparity between the two countries, suggesting that America's lack of universal health care and lower levels of social and economic equality are to blame.

"Canada and the US enjoy very similar standards of living,
yet life expectancy in Canada is higher than in the US.

 Two explanations:

  1. differences in access to health care and in the
  2. prevalence of poverty.

Canadians have a universal 'prenatal to grave' health service, which is free at point of care,
while Americans' access to health insurance is typically based on:-

bulletemployment,
bulletincome (Medicaid), or
bulletage (Medicare),

and is not universal.

The degree of social inequality is also more pronounced in the US.
The researchers found that Canadians can expect
2.7 more years of 'perfect health'
than Americans
-- more than half of the gap found between the richest and poorest people in Canada.
Speaking about the results, Feeny said,
"The difference in health between the two countries seems to be associated with substantial differences in access to care as well as substantial differences in social and economic inequality".

Obamacare Keeps Winning

Medicaid can also help seniors. If you qualify for Medicaid in your state, you automatically qualify for extra help paying your Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D).
Medicaid also offers benefits not normally covered by
Medicare, like nursing home care and personal care services.

You can find out if you qualify for Medicaid or CHIP on healthcare.gov.
